Explanations from an associate:

-Discontinued Items: Due to the fact that Bath & Body Works is constantly releasing new collections and fragrances, the company must do away with the older ones to make room for the new ones. With that being said, we listen to what our customers are buying. So if the Be Enchanted fragrance that YOU absolutely love goes away, you were probably one of the only ones who loved it. Oh, and yelling at the associates will not bring your favorite fragrance back.

-Old Soap Sleeves: Yes, the packaging of the soaps has changed and no, your old soap sleeves no longer fit. Just like anything else, BBW makes changes and updates. You can get a new sleeve for as cheap as $5.50.

-Free Item Mailer Coupons: If you are a loyal BBW customer chances are you receive coupons to your home address. Often, you will see that you have been given a coupon for a free Signature Collection Travel Size Item up to a $5 value in the fragrance of your choice. This means you may choose from a travel size lotion OR shower gel. No, you cannot choose a fragrance mist. Why? The fragrance mists are $6 and your coupon is for $5. No, you cannot choose any item and pay the difference. No, you cannot get a hand cream, even though they are $5. Why? Hand creams are NOT Signature Collection. I cannot tell you how many times a day a customer argues with me about this coupon. We are giving you something for free people, are you really going to sit there and complain about it?

-More on Coupons: Customers often ask me, โ€œcan my friend use my coupon too?โ€ I am sorry, but you and your friend cannot both use your coupon. Coupons are to be used only once. As an employee, I can get in trouble for double scanning coupons. I personally will not risk my job for your and your friend, sister, mom or whoever to get a discount.

-Return Policy: Bath & Body Works has a 100% guarantee on their products, so the return policy is pretty lenient. You may return any product with/without a receipt if you are not completely satisfied. If you return a product without a receipt, you will receive store credit for the lowest selling price of that item. So, for example if you are returning a lotion marked $12.50 you will get $6.25 for the item because during the Buy 3, Get 3 promotion (BBWโ€™s best signature collection promo) all lotions ring up as $6.25. If you have your receipt you will get back whatever amount you paid for the item in the form of the same method of payment in which you bought the item. So, do not bring in a candle that your friend bought with her debit card and think that we will be able to refund you on your debit card. However, if you dislike the scent of your product you are more than welcome to do an even exchange for a new scent. Most returns and exchanges require an ID card, this is to protect BBW from return fraud.

Believe it or not, some customers have the audacity to bring in completely empty bottles claiming that they disliked the product and want to switch it out for something different. Ok, so your saying you did not like the way your 3-wick candle smelt, yet you burned all 45 hours of it. Due to the 100% guarantee, we will let you choose a new candle, but just know that we will laugh behind your back about it and share will our co-workers about it.

-Conversion: Most customers do not know what conversion is so let me tell you. Bath and Body Works stores are equipped with devices that count each person as they enter the store. A number is calculated to show the percentage of customers that make purchases out of the total number of people who enter the store. Each store has a conversion goal, most of the time being above 50%. So when you walk in and out of the store 89 times conversion drops, this is bad for the store and its employees. Kids are the worst when it comes to this.

And although I could go on forever, the last thing I want to touch on is testers. The items around the store that are available for customers to try are called testers. They are marked with red round stickers. Please do not just grab any mist and start spraying it all over yourself, because chances are there is probably a tester that you can do that with. No customer wants to buy something that someone has already used. If there is not a tester in sight, most associates will be happy to make one for you. The small candles in front of the wallflower refill bulbs are testers and are not for sell. (I have many customers take these and bring them to the register to purchase) Also, scentportable refillsโ€ฆthere are testers for these too. When you stand their opening up every single refill to see what it smells like you are damaging our products and they can no longer sold.

Way to disrespect the customers that pay your wages. I know customers do things that drive the store employees crazy, I worked in retail over 20 years, do you think BBW is exclusive to this behavior?

Just look at it this way, you don't get paid any less no matter what antics the customers pull. Also, the prices aren't exactly cheap, even when there is the "Yellow Ducky" Clearance.

I am sure BBW makes plenty of profit between the brick & mortar and online stores. Sometimes the customers that act the worst spend the most.

The employees and the managers deserve the same respect as the customers. There are plenty of customers that push the employees or the managers that are able to take so much for mean and nasty customers.

No company or no store should be allowed to let this happen to them. Clearly if you were working into retail then you were able to understand that nobody knows how far those entitled customers are going to go.

The employees and the managers need to put those entitled customers into their places. Entitled customers are always going to be called out and confronted.

Perfectly sums up a typical day for a BBW employee! Store level workers dont decide what we sell so pump the brakes and lose the attitude about Twilight Woods being discontinued ages ago.

Also, I don't know of any retailer that would tell customers..."sure, we'll absolutely break our policy or ignore, terms & conditions or disclaimers because you've asked". Every coupon everywhere for everything is labeled with specifics for a reason...that's the offer, there are no substitutions or deviations and since those policies and terms & conditions are set by corporate, that means the employees don't have a magic wand they can wave to alter it for you and every other customer that requests it (which is almost all of them). Common sense, if companies operated that way, why bother with coupons at all, just tell people its a free-for-all and they can get whatever they want for the price they want. It's called Asset Protection and it allows the company to reward loyal customers while maintaining inventory control and preventing profit loss by not giving employees the power to give random products away for free!

Personally, I would just be grateful to get a free gift at all. Also, just because some coupon site says you can choose what coupon to use does not mean you can.

RetailMeNot does not own BBW nor do they have a say in what offers we can provide. If you really want the best deal every time you shop there then give us your # & email after every purchase and you will have the correct information sent to your email daily and your mailbox monthly!

Agreed with you. I worked into retail for many years.

There was always those customers that would try to start something with the employees or the managers or trying to get something for free.

It's so bad and sad see any employee or manager that has to deal with an customer that is so rude and arrogant. Any employee or manager has to deal with customers like that play the race or entitlement card should be rewarded for putting up with customers bs.

I like that Black Cherry Merlot body lotion. Yesterday at the BBW store they didn't have any and didn't know if anymore would be delivered. Why is it that the only scent I like is not there anymore ?

I don't think this comment is rude in any way. I work retail and am amazed at what customers think they can ask for.

Customers - act like adults and stop trying to get something for nothing. It's that kind of behavior that drives up prices for everyone and causes all the extra rules/policies to be put into place.

I how your boss reads this and takes action. How rude of you.

and i am hoping that they teach and educate you 'No, the customer is not always right.' Maybe customers need to learn to follow the rules and the policies before they play the entitlement card. How rude and arrogant of you for not understanding that.

Just because someone is commenting does not mean they are from the store or the company! They are calling you out for your bs!
